About Cheeks and Cheek Lifting

At Prèface Cosmetic Newcastle, we pride ourselves in rejuvenation when it comes to cheeks. The natural process of ageing impacts changes in skin elasticity, leading to a subtle shift in the mid-face, causing the cheeks to droop. This is called mid-face ptosis or cheek ptosis. Dr Hollenbach offers a number of techniques that aim to restore the normal cheek contour. In this blog, we will provide you with everything you need to know about cheek lifting and the options available to rejuvenate the mid-face area.

Techniques for Cheek Lifting at Prèface Cosmetic

1. Mid-Face Lifting (Cheek Lifting) Using Endotine Anchors

One of the surgical techniques for mid-face lifting involves either lifting straight up, known as the vertical vector or elevating ‘up and out’ which is often called a superolateral vector, this is where the cheeks are lifted out towards the temple area rather than straight up.

Both these techniques use Endotine anchors, which are placed beneath the muscles of the cheek and then sutured in place. Just as Endotine anchors are used in brow lifts and absorbed, these anchors too are absorbed over a period of time. The cheeks continue to be elevated over this period and beyond as there is collagen deposition and scarring in the deeper tissues, keeping the cheeks in the desired position.

 2. Mid-Face Lifting Using Ribbons

A mid-face lift using ribbons involves inserting an Endotine bioabsorbable suspension device into the lower cheek area that lifts the sagging tissue into a more elevated position.

Your body’s natural healing process starts to lay down new tissue in this elevated position and the device eventually dissolves. The ribbon utilises multiple points of contact to suspend delicate mid-face tissue and is easily adjustable according to the patient’s unique anatomy and desired outcome.

3. Mid-Face Lifting Using Threads

A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure where, rather than removing a patient’s loose facial skin surgically, threads are used to gently pull the skin back, producing a “lift” in the skin. Threads are inserted into the areas’ soft tissue to be lifted, with a local anaesthetic used to calm the area.

These absorbable threads dissolve within 18-24 months, but before they dissolve, they create a support scaffolding of collagen for the skin that supports and lifts the skin for years to come. Thread lifting achieves a relaxed and fresh, but natural appearance which preserves and enhances natural contours of the face.

4. Lipofilling (Fat Transfer)

Lipofilling, also known as Fat Grafting, presents an effective and more natural alternative to traditional dermal fillers. In this procedure, the volumising substance utilised is your body’s own fat. Unlike dermal fillers, Lipofilling involves no artificial substances, providing a safe and autologous solution for enhancing facial contours such as cheeks.

5. Non-surgical Cheek Rejuvenation

For those looking for a non-surgical option, we offer other effective techniques for rejuvenating the mid-face area:

Thermage

Thermage is a popular radio-frequency (RF) collagen rejuvenation therapy for the face which can help smooth, tighten and contour skin, as well as replenishing lost collagen deep beneath the skin.

eTwo Sublime

eTwo Sublime uses combined energies to effectively stimulate collagen production to improve overall skin quality.

This treatment is not as aggressive as Thermage. It still stimulates collagen production, providing immediate and long-term improvement of wrinkles and facial contour.
