Treatments for Collagen Rejuvenation
Dr Hollenbach here,
Lately, I have received quite a few questions regarding my thoughts on treatments and techniques for collagen rejuvenation. I have put together this blog post with the intention of providing my you with some further information and suggestions regarding collagen treatments.
What exactly is collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. I often tell people to think of collagen as the scaffolding of your skin. It is an elastic connective tissue, joining the muscles of facial expression to the overlying skin, providing support and volume. As we age, our collagen tends to degenerate and loses its elasticity, allowing facial skin to sag and form wrinkle lines.
Techniques for collagen rejuvenation at Preface:
We perform treatments such as radiofrequency skin tightening with Thermage to stimulate collagen production. Natural and organic, that’s the Prèface Cosmetic philosophy. You won’t look younger, because nobody can actually achieve that. But you will look fresh, natural and still like you… With a supple glow.
Why avoid anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are the great cosmetic Band Aid. They are commercialised poisons, definitely not organic or natural substances produced by the body.
No wrinkles, yet no smile.
Is that what you really want? When you smile naturally, your eyes smile. Anti-wrinkle injections allow for smiling lips, but often produce a blank stare. Unfortunately, they are short-term and you’ll be back every three months.
Side effects of anti-wrinkle injections.
Anti-wrinkle injections can lead to droopy eyelids, droopy corners of the mouth and will not rejuvenate natural collagen or skin glow. Over a long period of time anti-wrinkle injections can lead to resistance, unwanted subdermal scarring, sensitivity or allergy.
Be done with it.
A Fraxel re:pair laser resurfacing is a once-off treatment that lasts for years. This treatment softens fine lines and wrinkles and gets rid of sun damaged skin, leaving you with suppleness, better texture, tone and that desired glow. It’s natural and leaves you smiling. That’s right, a natural full smiling face.
A Fraxel re:pair laser resurfacing combined with PRP and Thermage is what I consider to be the complete collagen and skin rejuvenation package. Of course, this is general advice. Come and see me for a consultation to discuss the best options for you.
