All About the Benefits of Thermage

What is Thermage?

As we age, collagen production in our skin naturally declines, leading to sagging, fine lines and a loss of firmness. Thermage is a popular, non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses advanced radiofrequency (RF) technology to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. This innovative treatment works by safely heating the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating existing collagen and promoting the production of new collagen.

The skin has three primary layers:

  • The epidermis: the outermost, thin layer
  • The dermis: the deeper, supportive layer
  • The subcutaneous layer: composed of fat cells

As collagen weakens over time, skin elasticity diminishes and its ability to regenerate collagen decreases. Thermage targets this by applying controlled heat to repair and strengthen collagen fibres, resulting in noticeable skin tightening, smoother texture and improved skin tone.

Benefits of Thermage

Non-Invasive with Minimal to no Downtime
One of the key advantages of Thermage is that it is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment. Unlike surgical procedures, Thermage does not require incisions or stitches. You can get treated and resume your normal activities immediately, with no downtime or recovery period associated with the treatment.

Strengthen and tighten skin
Thermage works by stimulating collagen production deep within the skin, helping to restore firmness and tighten loose skin. Over time, you’ll notice firmer, smoother skin with improved texture and tone.

Long-lasting results
Thermage stimulates the production of new collagen, which continues to improve the skin for several months after treatment. While results take time to fully develop, typically starting to appear around a month after the procedure, the effects can continue to enhance your skin for up to six months. The maximum skin tightening results are usually visible at that point. While Thermage is often a one-time treatment, it can be repeated every two to three years for optimal, long-term results.

Safe for all skin types
Thermage is suitable for all skin types and tones, making it one of the most versatile skin tightening treatments available. Thermage can help you achieve rejuvenated skin without risk of hyperpigmentation or other issues.

Improve skin texture and tone
In addition to tightening the skin, Thermage also improves overall skin texture and tone. By stimulating collagen deep within the dermis, it helps smooth rough patches, reduce fine lines and promote a more even complexion.

At Prèface Cosmetic we ensure patients have met the necessary criteria for recommended treatments and procedures. It’s important to be aware of the risks associated with radiofrequency therapy in order to make an informed decision.

While there is no downtime associated with Thermage (you’ll be able to quickly get back to your normal routine), full face procedures require a twilight anaesthetic. Some patients have temporary redness or minor swelling after treatment, and this usually goes away within 24 hours.
