Ribbon Lift

About Endotine Ribbon Lifts:

Ribbon lifts use Endotine devices shaped like ribbons, which are surgically placed underneath the skin or muscles to delicately lift and reposition facial tissues to restore a more youthful contour.

The device is designed to gradually dissolve over time. This occurs  once the scarring in deeper tissues cause the facial tissues to assume their new desired position. Additionally, it promotes natural collagen production, ensuring long-lasting results.

Ribbon lifts may be combined with adjunctive procedures or treatments, depending on the facial area and specific concerns.

How Ribbon Lift Surgery Works

The Endotine ribbon implant is a thin flexible strip of plant-based bio-absorbable material that is used to secure your neck or jowl profile in just the right position.

The ribbons are surgically inserted underneath the muscles of the lower face and jowls and attached to the tissues around the bones either behind the ear or in front of the ear, above the hairline.

When the repositioned tissue binds fully in its new position, the device dissolves and is absorbed naturally. As the ribbon dissolves and is absorbed over time, collagen is stimulated thus enhancing the tightening effect.

Ribbon Lifts are used in the following facial areas, which are detailed in the sections below:

Lower Mid-face and Jowls:

The area between the lower eyelids and mouth is considered the mid-face. As we age, the effects of gravity, repeated muscle contraction, lifestyle and genetics cause the skin, fat, and muscle in this region to begin moving downwards.

This often causes cheeks to look saggy or flat and the lower eyelids become puffy or hollow. Circles can begin to appear under the eyes, and the lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth tend to deepen. Sagging of the lower mid-face leads to jowling whereby the saggy lower mid-face tissues descend below the jawline.

Endotine Ribbon Lifts Procedure for the Lower Mid-face and Jowls

A Ribbon Lift involves inserting an Endotine bioabsorbable suspension device into the lower cheek area that lifts the sagging tissue into a more elevated position.

Your body’s natural healing process starts to lay down new tissue in this elevated position and the device eventually dissolves. The ribbon utilises multiple points of contact to suspend delicate mid-face tissue and is easily adjustable according to the patient’s unique anatomy and desired outcome.

The incision begins above the hairline near the temples, extending in a natural line across the front of the ear. As the muscles are lifted, the result is a pronounced effect where jowling is often minimised. This can restore a more youthful appearance with greater definition of the jawline.

Adjunctive Procedures for Ribbon Lifts of the Lower Mid-face and Jowls:

Lipofilling (Fat Transfer) is often combined with mid-face lifting to add volume to the area. Non-surgical collagen stimulating treatments such as Thermage, Pellevé and eTwo Sublime can also enhance a ribbon lift of the mid-face.

Jaw and Neckline:

The area of the lower face around the jawline and neck can be prone to looseness and fat deposition as a cause of collagen loss with age.

The most common patient requests for procedures include double chin reduction surgery and lifting of sagging skin in the jaw area.

Endotine Ribbon Lifts for the Jawline and Neck:

The Endotine neck lift implant secures your jawline and upper neck profile in just the right position. Then, as the repositioned tissue binds fully in its new position, the device dissolves and is absorbed naturally, redefining the jawline and tightening the pre-existing laxity of the upper neck.

The entry point for the ribbon is a small, usually undetectable incision behind the ear.

Adjunctive Procedures for Ribbon Lifts of the Jawline and Neck:

There are several surgical and non-surgical procedures that can be combined with a jaw-line/neck lift, depending on a patient’s concerns and desired outcomes. These include Laser Liposuction, Thermage, Pellevé and eTwo Sublime.

Neck Lift (Ribbon Lift)

A neck lift (or platysmaplasty) is a surgical procedure of the neck itself. It commonly addresses excess skin and fat beneath the chin and neck to improve jawline definition. Traditional neck lifting is outside the scope of Dr Hollenbach’s practice, but he is able to refer patients to an appropriate qualified plastic surgeon for this procedure.

Dr Hollenbach does perform ribbon lifting around the jowls and beneath the jawline in the upper neck, which is effective in tightening this part of the face. Whilst this does not address the loose tissues of the neck itself, other procedures at Prèface Cosmetic can be effective as a non-surgical alternative. These procedures include collagen stimulation with Thermage and Fraxel re:pair CO2 skin resurfacing.
